When the movie Always (1989) came out we loved
the movie and the song “Smoke gets in your eyes”
by the Platters. So the song became our song. The
song was first used in the film Roberta (1935).
Always was filmed in Montana the year we had a
lot of fires. The movie is a remake of “ A Guy
Named Joe” (1943). The movie Always was also the
last time we saw Audrey Hepburn. The movies are
close to each other including some of the names.
The story: “A Guy Named Joe” When adventurous
World War II bomber pilot Pete Sandidge (Spencer
Tracy) dies in an aerial attack after ordering the
crew to safety, he meets "the General," a legendary
dead pilot who assigns Pete to return to earth as a
guardian angel for a new pilot named Ted Randall
(Van Johnson). But when Pete learns that Ted is
dating Pete's former girlfriend, Dorinda Durston
(Irene Dunne), he must set aside his jealousy and
prepare Ted for a dangerous bombing mission.
“Always” Aerial firefighter Pete (Richard Dreyfuss)
risks himself and his vintage World War II airplane
in a constant and death-defying quest to fight
forest wildfires, much to the dismay of his
girlfriend, Dorinda (Holly Hunter). His love for
Dorinda and the advice of fellow pilot Al (John
Goodman) convince Pete to give up his perilous
career, but he flies one last mission. Pete heroically
saves Al's plane from certain destruction, but with
supernatural consequences.

Royal Carriage
Actress Lady Joan’s recent movie release,
Royal Carriage, is her latest Academy
Award winner. The story, set in the
ficticious country of Sunderland, is a
true tale of romance and intrigue. The
richly carved and decorated royal carriage
used to transport the adored reigning
monarch in her travels around her
kingdom has been stolen by a neighboring
country’s royal family. The carriage has
a rich history of being the main
transportation for the royal family for
more than 4 generations. Queen Marianna
is indignant over the theft and
determined that she will recapture the
carriage and bring it back to its rightful
place in her kingdom. Without notifying
any of the royal advisors, Hazel Madison,
played by Lady Joan, hatches a secret plan
to disguise herself and travel to the
offending country to find and steal back
the royal carriage. Maureen O’Hara plays
Isabella, the queen of the evil
neighboring country. Gene Kelly is cast
as the Duke of Rothwell, a swashbuckling
spy who works for both countries, but
Hazel convinces him to aid her in
capturing the carriage. The story has
many twists and turns, finding Hazel in
danger of being discovered and possibly
imprisoned by the evil monarchy. She
manages to befriend some country folks
who assist her in getting to the proper
locations at the very best time to steal
the carriage back. After sword fights, a
dangerous chase through country roads and
thick forests, Hazel manages to make it
across the border to her kingdom and
reclaim the carriage for the kingdom of
Sunderland before war breaks out between
the two countries. The movie was filmed
throughout the beautiful countrysides of
the British Isles with the forest scenes
using the Burnham Beeches. The cast of
characters includes Errol Flynn as Paul
Winchester, Thelma Ritter as Marion and
Eve Arden as Jane. Also receiving an
