Dapper Day at Walt Disney World

Dapper Day is just a fun time to come dressed up in any decade you like. Most of the people come dressed in the 1940’s and 1950’s. You also have the flapper dress from the 1920’s. We have seen some very expensive clothing and some like a Pan Am stewardess. These photos are from our Dapper Days. Dapper Day happens twice a year, please bring your friends and look for us at the next Dapper Day.

A little Steampunk never hurt anyone.

Our friends had a Steampunk event in February of 2016. We had no Steampunk anything. So Ray started sewing and learning how to put it all together. He made his Steampunk coat and made the leather collar detachable so it would come off and the coat could be used for another event. We got Joanie a Steampunk hat at the Halloween store this October. The Steampunk group on Facebook had an event that we went to in Inverness. Fl. It was a train ride complete with a train robbery. There was a posse that rounded up the “bad guys” and lots of shooting to add to the effect. They even had horses involved with the acting.

Vintage Cruise

November 2015

January 2017

If you take a cruise take along some old clothing. No, not the clothes you work in the yard with, silly. Dress up nice for the evening. Vintage clothes fit in well with the decor of cruise ships. You know there will be one or two formal nights on the cruise. You can get your picture taken at several locations on the ship by their photographers or your friends. We found that people who stop you to ask why you’re dressed in vintage clothes will also be willing to take a few photos of you. They are always fascinated when we tell them how we like to dress up and have many other friends who like to dress vintage, too. You might think you will be the only one dressed up, right? Wrong. We saw this guy in a top hat, gloves, a tuxedo with tails and he even had a cane. Other people were looking very stylish for the evening, too. If you are with family or friends ask them to bring some clothing from the same time frame as you. That way you all will make a great picture to take home with you.

Murder mysteries

We recently hosted two murder mystery nights. The first was in our home. We invited local people and also friends from around the state. We had an overwhelming response, and even had spectators. Several drove as long as 2 ½ hours to come for the evening. All of the characters involved came in costume, and were completely into their characters. This was a very spirited group, and a couple times during the evening the discussion became quite loud as they accused each other of having a reason to murder the victim. By the end of the evening, everyone voted for who they thought was the killer. A few of the participants pegged the killer, but most were surprised when they discovered the killer’s identity.
The second murder mystery used the same script, but was hosted by a friend of ours. She works in a community center and talked some of the community residents and workers in the center to join her in doing the mystery. This turned out quite well. There were some very convincing actors in this group, but not near as vocal as the group we hosted at our home. Again, they voted for who they thought was the killer, and a few picked correctly, but most were surprised at the identity of the killer. This community group was asking already the next week how soon she would be hosting the next murder mystery, so it is evident they enjoyed themselves. Several are content just being the audience, but many of them want to be one of the characters, too.
We have found that there are many people interested in murder mystery plays, so we have determined that we will be doing more of them sometime in the future. We are thinking we will probably host one in the Orlando are once the weather cools down again.
We have found that several of the movie theaters in Florida in some of the smaller towns like to run old movies during the summer. We are going to go to one of the movies toward the end of the summer and dress in the period in which the movie was set. Several of our friends plan on attending and dressing in period clothing, too. It should be a fun outing. We’re finding there are lots of people who enjoy doing this, and the theaters love that the audiences like to come dressed in the spirit of the film.
