One of the best things about
Dapper Day weekend is being able
to pose in Dapper Day clothing in
front of the iconic buildings in the
parks. Of course, Cinderella’s
castle is the most iconic building
in Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately
we sometimes forget to get good
photos there before the crowds
start pouring in. This year, we
took special time to get our
pictures done early.
They can’t all be serious poses. Sometimes we can’t resist
clowning around a little bit.
There is a cozy little street on the side of Main
Street that provides some of the nicest picture
spots. We were lucky that Sean happened to
be in the area when we wanted some shots, so
he obliged us by getting some pictures that we
wanted before the street got too crowded.
And it was a nicely shaded area, so the
morning heat didn’t get to us too early.
The flowering plants
that Disney has along
this street add to the
beauty of this street.
And this
doctor/photographer/
dapper gentleman fit
right into the street, as
if he just walked there
from another time.
A gentleman always tips his hat to
greet people passing by.
This “baby” might
have had the best
seat in the park on
this particular day.
She certainly seemed
to get around the
park with no effort.
Of course, Joanie
always carries a parasol
with her. This
particular one features
pictures of all of her
Dapper Day outfits from
the past, complete with
the pattern numbers
she used to sew the
dresses. It even has the
year of the dress.
1940’s, 1950’s syle. It
was quite a
conversation piece.
This parasol looks like a fairly simple idea, but it involved many hours
of shooting the photos to show the dresses correctly. Then the photos
had to be printed on transfer paper, pressed onto fabric triangles,
sewn together to make an umbrella cover, lined and then sewn onto
the umbrella frame. The final touches were adding a little airbrushed
color to the panels and sewing lace around the bottom edge and the
very top of the canopy. Because of the length of time it took to take
the photos, we probably had about three weeks worth of work in its
creation.
Magic Kingdom has so many quaint little spots along Main Street and some
of the shops, we had fun looking for different places to get pictures. And
of course, sunlight changes throughout the day, so two pictures taken in the
same spot may look quite different a different times of the day.
Because of the hot Florida days, a parasol and a
fan are always necessary accessories for a lady.
The dapper gentleman manages to have a vintage
camera with him at all times, because you just
never know when the perfect scene will grab his
attention. And if he is a doctor, his doctor’s bag
is a must!
